4Ludwig Pinnacle Complete Drumset  Feb 06, 2010 By Kelly A. Mitchell "@HawaiiRealty"
Searching for an affordable, quality drumset is not an easy task. I spent over 5 hours on the internet and found it difficult to find much affordable beyond the junior piece of garbage drum set. I searched many quality brands and none had a good entry level complete set (with chair) except for Ludwig. Our son is 14 and has taken lessons, as well as owned the prerequisite cheapish electronic Costco drum set which we threw away last year. I could not find a single review on this product even on Ludwig's own website (where for some reason they don't even show this set - could be because of price point).

I must say for the price, this is a good investment for a beginner to intermediate non-professional drummer. Sound quality appears to be good, quality of set is decent (again not professional level) for the price and we are happy with this purchase as is our son.

Couple of things to note... the set came with no set up instructions and we had to use the internet to figure that out. Purchase at least one extra pair of sticks.

Would I purchase this set again? Yes! Great price for the quality.Ludwig Pinnacle Complete 5 piece Drumset by Ludwig, Wine Red Metallic

4Great product for price, but hardly complete!  Oct 18, 2009 By R. Klein "The Cloud"
For the price, this is an amazing set that looks great!

The set came in two large boxes. After unpacking everything, I found that there were no directions included. There was simply a link on the side of one of the boxes to a website. This website was for a different Ludwig set, however, so some parts were different. I would recommend having someone familiar with drums help you set this up, since there are a few caveats you will not be aware of.

The heads included with the set are horribly thin. The smaller toms have heads already on and semi-tuned, the floor tom and bass did not have heads on them yet. I replaced them immediately with a set of Remo Pinstripes(~80 bucks for everything, including the base head) Keep in mind the sizes of these toms(10, 12, 16), one of the prepackaged remo pinstripe sets will not cover all of these! I had to buy a set and then an extra one to cover them all. Of course, doing this required for me to then tune the drums. I would not suggest you attempt this yourself if you are new! Get an experienced friend to help! Once we got the heads in tune, there were still some high overtones, I bought a set of drum toners(also called drum rings) for under 20 bucks, search around online for them, they are simply thing plastic rings that sit on the edge of the heads. Once I had this all together, the drums sounded amazing!!!

My biggest gripe with the set is the cymbals....don't even consider these part of the set when deciding to purchase this item. There is one combination crash/ride and a high-hat set. The high-hats are ok, but the bottom hat started warping rapidly and I replaced it quickly with some used zildjian ZHT (zbt = basic, zxt = little better, zht = better, K and A = Best) and I suddenly had way more fun with my Chink-Chinks. For songs I have been practicing that require a Ride, I butcher them with the stock crash/ride, so I really want to buy a new ride that I will be happy with. Then, I will also need a crash. Most songs need a ride and a crash, this set with a single cymbal to represent both simply does not cut it.

The sticks that came with were 3A, these sticks are much fatter than I have seen. 5A is the default set usually. When starting out, try a few different sizes/weights and see what you like. These thick sticks simply do not work for me, but that is a personal opinion.

Overall, I think this is a great product for the price. If I had to do it again, however, I think I would purchase all the pieces individually and get the best quality for price for each element. For example, I would find a great deal on a hihat stand and hihats, and then find a decent snare. Since these are what you use more often, I could practice with these for a bit, then add a Bass and the toms and decent cymbals. It would be much more expensive here, but I feel it would make the set more customizable and complete. But, if you are like me and knew very little about drums before starting, this is still a great set to get to learn the ropes, but expect to spend much more money down the road!

3Might be a nice drum set - but no directions to assemble it!!  Oct 03, 2009 By Tracy M.
We received the drum set in two separate boxes. There are many, many pieces, screws, nuts, etc.. and there are NO directions. Our son is extremely disappointed because we have no idea how to put it all together.
