Perfect for the gigging drummer. Jan 08, 2011

I've been a gigging drummer for over 40 years and have used practically every type of "stand" case from fiberboard trap cases w/wheels to a soft bag conga case w/wheels. The SKB meduim hardware case with its retractable handle and durable wheels is perfect for the gigging drummer. (You may want the larger case if you want to put your hi-hat stand in there.) I chose the medium size case, so I can load/unload the case by myself. Obviously, the more you bring, the heavier the case.
I also own other SKB cases for both my drum shells and cymbal cases. The SKB cases take a beating and are still in great shape. This case has been so efficient, that I bought another case to store all the PA cables and extension cords.
I bought the first case from BestBuy. I found the second one cheaper on Amazon.com through CSN stores. CSN stores had the best price and shipped directly from the factory.

I bought this hardware case for my husband as the soft hardware case he was using had worn through. I searched all over the place for the perfect case and most were well over $200. My husband is thrilled with it. He plays in a band most weekends and has to drag his equipment in and out of his car quite frequently. He said it makes a world of difference, and that it fits easily in his car. The size is perfect. The fact that this case also comes with a replacement part warranty is a great plus for the future.
Best option for hauling drum hardware May 02, 2012

I can't say enough good things about SKB cases. Sure, they cost more. However, like anything else, you get what you pay for. I learned a long time ago that cheap cases will have to be replaced. So, my rule of thumb these days is to buy the good stuff and be done with it.
Until recently, I was playing in two bands. In one, I was an aux percussionist and, in the other, a drummer. My kits for these bands were radically different, so I kept the hardware in separate cases. The aux percussion setup was actually quite a bit larger than my drum kit -- I ended up purchasing the larger SKB "Trap X1" case for this stuff. I liked it so much, I sprung for the medium size case for my drum kit hardware, then gradually bought SKB cases for all of my drums.
In typical SKB fashion, both hardware cases are rock solid. They "take a lickin' and keep on tickin'." Both have heavy-duty wheels, so you can pull-and-roll over level surfaces. The only problem with the larger case is, well, it's big -- you can practically fit a body inside. My band mates referred to it as "the coffin." The medium case offers lots of space, but it's relatively easy to lift when you're loading up to - and down from - a car/trailer. I usually need help to hoist the large case.
Another reviewer here suggests that it's difficult to fit a hi hat stand in the medium case. I do not have this problem. However, I always remove the top tube and threaded rod when packing it away. Even if you have the larger case, and CAN fit the fully assembled hi hat stand inside, I would still take it apart. If you leave the rod attached, it can be easily bent as weight shifts and stuff bangs around inside the case.
One final point: The towing handle on the medium case is definitely more flimsy than the handle on the large case. That said, mine has NOT broken. I realized early that the handle has a few different adjustment stops. When it is fully extended, and there is lots of weight in the case, the plastic handle does bend in the middle. When pulling the case, I use the adjustment stop that makes the handle as short as possible. This dramatically improves the rigidity of the handle.
SKB makes quality stuff. Bottom line: whether you go with this medium case, or the large one, you can't go wrong.

Plain and simple this case is great. Its strong, well built and lifetime warrantied, what more could you ask for? The case is a winner, its not overly big, but still fits all of my hardware, and the wheels and handle are a lifesaver.. I have other SKB cases, and they make good products. The price on Amazon was $10 less than anywhere else. Delivery was quick. I highly recommend it.

I bought this case to transport a Roland VDrum electronic drumset as checked baggage in an intercontinental flight.
It passed it's test with fliying colors. Everything fitted perfectly, including a VH11 (hihat pad) and the hihat stand (but the kick pedal didn't fit)
When it arrived, the case showed signs of rough handling but all contents arrived perfectly. The case was not deformed or warped and the wheels and handle were in perfect condition.
I was a little bit concerned by the fact that all the weight is carried in two handles in the top cover, and the top cover is held to the rest of the case by the two belts. So, when the case is being carried as opposed to being rolled, all the weight is bear by the belts which closure is a normal plastic backpack buckle (very sturdy though, but still) I think SKB should find a way of putting a sturdier link between the lower and top parts of the case (something similar to a pelican case closure, but not as complicated maybe)
Finally I would have loved a couple of padlock eyes.
Overall. Great product! Fully recommended even for air travel (although is not officially Air Travel certified or rated, I think)
